Jury Verdict Statistics in the District of Columbia for the First Half of 2014

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia prepares compilations of data for jury trial verdicts in a variety of civil cases, including medical malpractice, slip-and-fall, and auto accident cases.  The recent release of the first half of 2014 shows:

Medical Malpractice Cases: 6 jury trial verdicts: 3 for Plaintiff and 3 for Defendant.

  • $120,000: Case dealt with what the Superior Court termed misdiagnosis; serious permanency of injury;
  • $400,000: Case dealt with what the Superior Court termed non-serious permanency of injury;
  • $464,000: Case dealt with what the Superior Court termed misdiagnosis, incompetent surgery, and serious permanency of injury.

Slip-and-fall Cases: 3 jury trial verdicts: 1 for Plaintiff and 2 for Defendant.

  • $105,000:  Case dealt with what the Superior Court termed soft tissue injury, verifiable back and neck injury, and permanency of injury.

Auto Accident Cases: 30 trial verdicts: 17 for Plaintiff and 13 for Defendant.

  • $0:  Case dealt with what the Superior Court termed soft tissue injury; however, this trial was on liability only;
  • $0:  Case dealt with what the Superior Court termed soft tissue injury; however, this trial was on liability only;
  • $1,032.70:  Case dealt with what the Superior Court termed soft tissue injury and permanency of injury;
  • $2,871: Injury type unknown;
  • $3,000:  Case dealt with what the Superior Court termed soft tissue injury and verifiable back and neck injury;
