Jerry Ueckermann joins us as a Senior Associate assigned to the Commercial Litigation and Employment Law practice group where he primarily handles insurance defense, personal injury litigation, and insurance coverage. He is an experienced trial attorney who is a member of the Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey Bars and practices before the District and Circuit Courts of Maryland, as well as the courts of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Jerry attended Susquehanna University where he graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in History in 1982, and obtained his juris doctorate from Rutgers University in 1985. Prior to joining DeCaro Doran, his legal experience included a judicial clerkship in the New Jersey Superior Court and an associate position with Greenblatt & Rosenburger in Vineland, New Jersey. After relocating to Maryland, he was associated with O’Malley, Miles, Nylen & Gilmore from 1993 to 2004 and, most recently, Schmidt, Dailey & O’Neill from 2005 to 2013. Jerry lives in Columbia, Maryland with his wife and two children.

Emily Belanger initially joined the firm as a Summer Associate in May 2012. In December 2013, she was sworn in to the Maryland Bar and became an Associate Attorney, assigned to the Litigation 1 practice group. Emily received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Towson University in 2010, where she was a member of the International Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma. She obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore School of Law in May 2013. At the University of Baltimore, she was a member of the University of Baltimore Law Review, as well as a member of the Honor Board.

Prior to joining Decaro, Doran, Emily held an internship under Maryland State Senator Richard Colburn, where she assisted in the review of pending legislation. After completing the DeCaro Doran Summer Associate Program in August 2012, she remained with the firm as a law clerk until her swearing in to the Maryland Bar. She is in the process of becoming a member of the bar of Washington, D.C. A native of St. Mary’s County, Maryland, Emily now resides in Baltimore, Maryland.

Abby Uzupis is from Trenton, New Jersey and she recently joined DeCaro Doran as an Associate Attorney assigned to Litigation Practice Group 1. She is admitted to the Virginia Bar and her practice is focused in insurance defense litigation. She is also in the process of becoming a member of the Washington, D.C. bar, as well as the bar of Maryland.

Abby attended Boston College, where she graduated cum laude, in 2008, with degrees in Political Science and Human Development. Following graduation from Boston College, she worked as a litigation paralegal with the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in Washington, D.C. before starting law school. Abby obtained her J.D. from George Mason University School of Law in May 2013 where she was the Managing Editor of the school’s Law Review and Vice-President of Community Outreach for the Student Bar Association. Prior to completing her law school education, she served as a legal intern with the DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, a law clerk with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Vaccine Litigation, and completed a judicial clerkship with The Honorable Mitchell S. Goldberg, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Most recently, she was a research assistant to Professor Joyce Malcolm at George Mason University School of Law. Abby currently resides in Washington, D.C.
