DeCaro Doran is extremely pleased to announce that Mark Kohl was elevated to Principal Partner with the firm on January 1, 2023.  Mark received his undergraduate degree from Olivet Nazarene University in 1999, his master’s degree from the University of Illinois in 2002, and his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2005.  Thereafter, Mark spent a year as a judicial law clerk for The Honorable Christopher C. Henderson at the Circuit Court for Charles County, Maryland before beginning his litigation career with another insurance defense firm in Prince George’s County, Maryland.  Since 2012, Mark has been with DeCaro Doran as an Associate Attorney and more recently as a junior partner.  Mark has been an extraordinary asset at the firm where his litigation focus has been in the area of professional liability, construction defect, and general liability litigation.  We are very pleased with Mark’s agreement to join the firm as a full partner.

Additionally, the firm is pleased to announce that Heather R. Beygo has joined DeCaro Doran in the capacity of Of Counsel.  Heather is a 1993 graduate of the University of California, and she received her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 1996.  She spent the first five years of her practice as an Associate Attorney with insurance defense firms in St. Louis, Missouri before relocating to Maryland.  Over the past twenty years, she has honed her skills as an exceptional litigator in a general insurance defense civil litigation practice with exposure to all lines of work.  She is barred in both Maryland and the District of Columbia.  Over the years, Heather has handled many cases as counsel for co-defendants in matters with DeCaro Doran.  We are excited to have Heather join our practice from this point forward.

Lisa H. Carrera has joined the firm as an Associate Attorney.  Lisa is a graduate of the University of Maryland University College having received her undergraduate degree in 2016, and her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2019.  Prior to her undergraduate education, Lisa spent five years as a Legal Assistant and Electronics Technician Petty Officer in the United States Navy.  Since completing her legal studies, Lisa has worked in the Felony Narcotics Division of the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office.  She has extensive litigation experience, primarily on the criminal side of the Bar, and brings that trial experience to DeCaro Doran to be utilized in our civil practice.  We welcome Lisa Carrera to the firm.

Finally, Christopher Bastian recently joined the firm as a law clerk.  Chris received his undergraduate degree from Radford University in 2009 and his master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Radford in 2018.  He is currently in the middle of his legal studies at the University of Baltimore School of Law where he is expected to graduate in December 2024.  For six years prior to entering law school, Chris worked as a homicide detective with the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.  He also has experience as a judicial intern/law clerk with The Honorable Kevin Arthur on the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and with the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland.  We look forward to Chris’ assistance as a law clerk with the firm in the upcoming months and as a Summer Associate at DeCaro Doran in 2023.
